Make up your mind. I am currently listening to Call me When Your Sober. Listening to the lyrics in particular. Listening to how Amy Lee uses her voice to convey her feelings so strongly. Listening to how she uses the phrases, pauses and adds dynamics to dramatise the song. Listening to the backing vocals and how they harmonise so sweetly. Pauses are very effective in this song. Evanescence uses a lot of pauses for that dramatic effect, even in there older songs, like Taking Over Me.
What I like in a song. A list of what makes a song good in my view.
1- Lyrics: should be understandable. I find it interesting when the song tells a story. Should also match the melody and the style of the song.
2- Melody: should have thought put into it. Be inventive and not like every other song that band has made.
3- Style: the melody and lyrics should suit the style and I don't just mean what genre the band or song is, I mean the WAY the song is played. The dynamics, tempo and the instruments used. The things which the main audience don't pay much attention to. The things which the band puts a lot of effort in but aren't acknowledged for their hard work.
4- Skill: experience of a band and how well they play a song is extremely important. You may have a well constructed song, but the band might be shit-ass. It's no use if the song isn't played properly, and that doesn't involve remakes.
5- Genre: This matters to me because I don't particularly like country music, most 60's songs and some 70's songs and most popular music of today. I wouldn't like a song to be RnB or hip hop because the so called artists have no skill what so ever.
6- The Band: The band who plays a song is important because they add their part to the song in the WAY they play it. If a band uses all of these key elements, they will have another fan (me).
Bear in mind, these guidlines are the ones I created thinking of myself, and not anyone else's opinion.
